Year 7. What a Day.

On June 13, 2026, the Wiebe Works prairie filled with 500+ people for the seventh edition of Art in the Garden. Live music ran from 11 AM to sundown, a curated artisan village lined the lawn, the Kids' Garden ran at capacity for most of the afternoon, and the Earl Perrera sundown set held the ground on a Saskatchewan evening that did the prairie proud. Seven years in, the day still felt fresh.

What started as an intimate gathering on the same land that became Ground Up Studios has grown into an annual Saskatchewan tradition — and 2026 was the strongest edition yet. Thank you to every artist, vendor, volunteer, partner, and neighbor who came out. The recap below is the long version of that day.

Year 7

Every edition teaches us something. Here's what landed in 2026 — and what we're carrying into 2027.

What Worked Operationally

The early-arrival shuttle from Saskatoon cleared the parking crunch before gates opened. Sound checks started an hour earlier than 2025, which kept the stage running on schedule all day. Spacing the food vendors across two zones (rather than a single row) prevented backups and let three local food vendors run out by 4 PM — a good problem.

What the Audience Responded To

The wide-open lawn filled before 1 PM and held throughout. The Kids' Garden ran near capacity from noon to 4 PM with three activity rotations. The Earl Perrera sundown set held 400+ on the grass as the sky went prairie-gold — the timing of that slot is here to stay.

What We're Changing for '27

More food vendors with hotter grills. A second shade structure on the south lawn. Earlier and clearer workshop signups so people can plan their day. A longer, slower build into the headline set — more breathing room in the schedule.

The land does the work. Saskatchewan-only performers and vendors. Farm-to-table food. Free Kids' Garden. The character home, greenhouses, and gazebos as the gallery. One prairie farm, one day, all of it made by the people who showed up.

The History

Seven Years on
This Land

Art in the Garden was founded by artist and musician Valerie Wiebe on the Wiebe Works property — the same land that became Ground Up Studios. What started as an intimate gathering has grown into an annual Saskatchewan tradition, drawing musicians, artisans, families, and curious strangers from across the province every June.

The character home, greenhouses, gazebos, and open fields aren't just a backdrop. They're the reason people keep coming back. Seven years running. Still growing. "Creating beauty, opportunity and community" isn't a tagline — it's what the day actually is.

Multi-Day Residencies

Artists and creatives on the property for 3–30 days — studio time, lodging, meals, acreage access. The existing artist residency program expands to host two residency cohorts booked into the festival season, with public showcase open to attendees.

Workshops & Skill-Shares

Day-long and weekend workshops in visual art, music, and craft — songwriting circles, ceramics intensives, folk dance, printmaking, audio production. Sessions run before and after the festival day so attendees can build a multi-day program.

Site-Specific Installations

Art scattered across the property — the character home, greenhouses, gazebos, and open fields become the gallery. Selected installation artists get a multi-week build window before the festival and a documented public showing during it.

Long-Table Dinners

Prairie-sourced multi-course dinners on the land — paired with the existing overnight stays and wellness retreat offerings to make a full weekend of it. Limited seating, by application and waitlist.
